About Jaclyn Renee Vogel

Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana Jaclyn received her BA in theatre with high honors from Butler University. Shortly after graduating in 2014 she moved to Cleveland, OH where she has been a theatre artist ever since.

Having studied and practiced a wide variety of disciplines including costume design, acting, directing, set design, lighting design, stage management, theatre management, dance, and playwrighting, she considers her identity as a theatre artist to be multi-layered and ever-expanding, but identifies most strongly with being a playwright-director and costume designer.

She believes while theatre is entertainment, it is our duty as artists to bring awareness to human rights and social justice issues. She prioritizes creating and collaborating with work that does just that. She's proud to have been involved in work that has sparked conversation on healthcare, the opioid epidemic, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, redlining, racism, gun violence, immigration and environmental rights.

Jaclyn's mission in all of her work is to promote a more loving & equitable world. She's committed to kindness, the creation of new works, contemporary works, and amplifying unheard voices.

As a playwright she writes in response to our times with the hope audiences will find common ground and radical empathy with the characters she's created and transfer that compassion to the people they encounter in their daily lives. Jaclyn has created original work for Cleveland Public Theatre's Entry Point, Station Hope, and Pandemonium. Her play to be healthy received a workshop production at CPT's Test Flight. She was also honored to be part of the writing co-Hort for ENDependence Opioid Project a collaboration with MetroHealth and Cleveland Public Theatre. Her short play the Do-Over was produced with the Young Playwrights Collective Meet the Playwrights event, which she is currently an active member. Her current project is a full-length mystery play titled Brutal Dreams.

As a costume designer Jaclyn prioritizes the actor's needs, the director's vision, and sustainability. She tries whenever possible to thrift and reuse fabrics for her costumes. She's costumed designed at NoExit Performance, Young Actor's Theatre, Beck Center for the Arts, Ensemble Theatre, and Talespinner Children's Theatre.

As a director, and administrator, she make safe spaces for artists to create art and for patrons to receive and interact with that art.

Jaclyn is incredibly proud of her five years working at Cleveland Public Theatre including her three seasons as Director of Patron Services.  In past year she's also worked for several Cuyahoga Public Libraries teaching introduction to hand-sewing and world of theatre costume design.
